As if Kanye West wasn’t having a hard enough year with his mother dying unexpectedly… now, he had to deal with washed up stunt motorcyclist Evel Knievel, who sued Kanya because of his depiction in a music video. In all reality, most people probably no longer recognize Evel and he just wanted to make sure people remember his legacy of trying to jump over things. The case never went to court, it was settled at Evel’s Clearwater condo. Since first saying his depiction was degrading, he now refers to Kanye as a nice gentleman and “hope everything works out” with his mother. What comforting words for Kanye West!
Here is another video from folk and indie artist Bright Eyes, the brainchild being singer and songwriter Conor Oberst. No matter what band he has behind him, the music is always melodious and the lyrics introspective. If you are a fan of intelligent rock music in the vein of Bruce Springsteen and if you expect more than curse words and loud, distorted guitars, Bright Eyes may be what you have been waiting for. Peep the video for “Four Winds”
The Eagles may be an old group, and they may not have as much fanfare as Britney Spears, but somehow they managed to edge her on the sales charts this week. In the Top 200 albums in sales according to Billboard.com, Long Road Out of Eden debuted at Number 1 while Britney’s latest, Blackout, sold roughly half. Whether this is the end of Britney’s career or not remains to be seen, but The Eagles are still going strong.
Barack Obama may be like a rock star on his tour to become the US President, but it doesn’t shield him from the usual problems of a political campaign, like catching heat from lobby groups. A gay rights group is calling for a Gospel singer on Obama’s tour to leave the campaign after controversial comments about gay and lesbian people. Obama is actively trying to eradicate homophobia in conservative African-American communities, so to have an anti-gay Gospel singer on tour just seems counter-productive.
The nineties were pretty popular for rock ballads that hit an emotional chord. This song is no different, Runaway Train by Soul Asylum. I think you will probably remember hearing this on the radio sometime in the 90s, so feel a little younger for a few minutes and kick back with this now classic music video.
Though his star has long faded since rumors he was gay, Ricky Martin cemented his place in Hollywood entertainment history when he was given a star on the famous Walk of Fame. If you forgot who he was, Ricky Martin is a Latin dancer and singer who hit it big in the early to late nineties. He legions of adoring female fans abandoned him when it was rumored he was gay.
Diddy, formally known as Puff Daddy and also known as Sean Combs is being investigated by the NYPD for an incident at a trendy Manhattan night club - the SoHo. Combs allegedly punched a man out over what his law counsel called a “misunderstanding.” Combs is a hip hop mogul who has his hands in many industries, making tons of cash. It makes you wonder why he’s still punching people, I’d be knowing them out with bricks of cash.
T.I. is the self-proclaimed King of the South when it comes to hip-hop. However, he was noticeably absent from the annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, where he was up for nine nominations, winning two. Apparently, he was in jail for weapons charges after he hired a bodyguard to buy him guns. Performers who were set to perform alongside T.I. at the show went on without him, replacing him with a woman replacement to much crowd laughter.
Does anybody remember the bubblegum pop band Hanson? Unfortunately, they are still around and performing. The other night the eldest brother in the combo was hospitalized with chest pain, where he remains. According to reports, he suffered from a pulmonary embolism. The show, sadly, is slated to go on.
