Used to be coffee makers were all basically the same. You needed a handful of paper filters and some Folger’s roast. All coffee came out tasting basically the same. I never was a fan of restaurant coffee, but I did always like Starbucks drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. It turns out that many of these quality drinks use espresso, not regular coffee. Nowadays, it’s possible to make good quality espresso from home in machines that also perform the other necessary functions of a coffee shop, like steaming milk.
