President Bush has stated his intention to eventually close the prison at Guantanamo Bay. The prison has been a source of contention in the media, over the treatment of prisoners. It seems that some 80 of the 355 detainees are eligible for release - but their countries of origin don’t want them back. So what do we do in that situation? It’s not like we want them running around the US. Even if they haven’t been convicted of anything, they are still terror suspects. Who knows what will happen - but this gives Bush an excuse for not closing the prison anytime soon.
